Olwen Fouéré is going festival hoping this summer. With two shows in three festivals Ireland’s most idiosyncratic actress will remind audiences as to why she is our most revered and unpredictable performer with two very different shows. First up is Maria De Buenos Aires, a tango opera mounted at the Cork Opera House, as part of the Cork Midsummer, hands down the best theatre festival in the country last year. Director Conor Hanratty and Musical Director John O’Brien both dragged Opera off its perceived high horse with the astounding Flatpack - (an IKEA Opera) and Pagliacci. Both received 5 stars from entertainment.ie. But don’t just take our word for it. They were also nominated for an Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Opera Production with Pagliacci taking the prize.
